Andy, a writer and comedian from Chicago, stepped onto the AGT stage during Season 14 with an act so simple that nobody knew what to expect. As the music began, he prepared to perform a karaoke version of the classic song “Tequila” by The Champs.
The audience watched with curiosity.
Then something unexpected happened.
For most of the song, Andy simply stood on stage, staring at the audiehttps://youtu.be/_D7DIfEcbiEnce and the karaoke screen. While the instrumental music played, he remained completely silent. Then, at the perfect moment, he confidently delivered the song’s only lyric:
“Tequila!”
The crowd immediately burst into laughter.
As the song continued, Andy repeated the same routine, waiting patiently before once again shouting the famous one-word lyric. His deadpan expression and commitment to the joke made the performance even funnier, turning a simple karaoke song into one of the most memorable comedy auditions of the season.
The judges couldn’t stop laughing. By the end of the act, all four judges—Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, and Julianne Hough—voted “Yes,” sending Andy through to the next round of the competition.
Andy later returned for the Judge Cuts round with another unusual karaoke performance, this time using the hit song “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon. While the audience enjoyed the act, the competition was much tougher at this stage.
Unfortunately, the performance wasn’t enough to earn a place in the Quarterfinals, and Andy’s AGT journey came to an end.
Even though he didn’t win the competition, Andy Rowell left a lasting impression on fans. His audition proved that comedy doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes, one word, delivered at exactly the right moment, can create one of the funniest moments in America’s Got Talent history.
